B'Rats on the Web

Welcome to the home of the Bilge Rats. This will be your one and only source of key Bilge Rat information besides the facebook group, the event invitations, the hard copy of the schedule, and Jeff Lopa. Besides those though, this is the place you need to go.

The Bilge Rats started one most likely warm day in January 2008 and have grown to become the most popular and celebrated team in the greater Magic Kingdom west side area Mens League Donald II division. This sort of notoriety deserves some sort of recognition--some sort of fame. That's why a free website was a must.

So join us here each week my friends for Bilge Rats information and game recaps. You can even write your own testimonials or use one the the sites many resources and tools to have an experience no other softball related blog can give you. Or, you can look at porn. I wouldn't be suprised if someday we linked there as well.

Happy surfing, and remember, Bilge Rats forever, or until we can all find a better team to play on.

Game 2 update

Alright, when we lose my updates are going to be pretty short. I doubt anyone is going to run home and read a blog about losing. The Rats fell 10-4.

The lineup (as I remember)
1.Mike P
2.Mendy 3B
3.Brett LCF
4.Tyler LF
5.Thad 2b
6.Jake SS
7.Bret C
8.Deon RF
9.Bill 1B/RCF
10.Nick 1B

Not showing: Lopa, Jack (cruise), Brent (funeral), Josh (closing), Wyrick (had to tivo Saved By the Bell), Elton (Fell off the face of the Earth). There may have even been others.

The Rats were hurt by the fact that the Basics were a solid team with hard hitters, and a short left fielder that we hit the ball to roughly 45 times. He didn't even have to move. There was a strong wind to left that blew him every ball. Also their pitcher wasn't great, but his pitches were close enough, and often high enough that we popped up every ball. I'm proud to say that I only popped up once. I managed to get myself out two other times without popping up. That's skill.

The fielding play of the game was a hard grounder down the line to Mendy that took a bad hop but he still snagged. There was a force at 3rd and mendy charged to the base diving to it with his glove and barely beating the runner. He then spiked the ball in victory. I thought he was going to pick up 3rd base, grab a cell phone, and make a call. Reference anyone? Anyone???

The hitting play of the game was Wegner's triple a hard smack down the 3rd base line he was able to make it into 3rd easily and continue a slight Blige Rats Ralley. I think the hit actually gave us the lead 4-3. It didn't last. Wegner also didn't hurt his legs on the play, although he still runs around like the Gingerbread Man.

The key play of the game was the final one. Mike on 3rd, Mendy on first, Brett at the plate. Brett takes a pitch and Mendy is off to second which he steals with no play. Then, proving he is a manly man he decides to steal 3rd. Who cares that Mike is there? Mike eventually scrambles home and slides under the tag for the 5th Bilge Rats run, except that he is called out and the umpire says, "I don't even know why they'd try that play." Mike was safe, which is a good result of trying a play, but we assume he was called out for poor judgement. Who knows what would have happened if he was called safe and the Rats down 5, mendy on 3rd, and Brett at the plate, but I think we can all say for sure the rats wouldn't have come back and won 11-10. Most likely it would have been a 17-10 victory.

Douche of the game was the final hitter for the Basics. He wasn't a bad guy per say, but he did slide into first twice. Feet first. Like it was, you know, not first. The worst part is that he was safe both times. If this is how you play softball, then you should be banned from the sport. If this is how you succeed at softball, then it really is more proof that God is dead.

  1. wow. are you serious? Of all the teams in our league i wanted us to beat the entertainment team the most. I see that we only had 10 in the lineup? did we not have enough for an EH? Did we not have enough for a sub? Did Micheal Berry not even show up? What the hell?

  2. We actually only had 9 for the first inning, then Nick showed up. Yeah, it sucked.
